What the Super Committee Means for Hungry Americans
Right now, the “Super Committee” is hard at work trying to identify $1.2 trillion to trim from the federal budget.
Why does this matter? Because programs that put food on the table for America’s vulnerable children, seniors, and working families could be on the chopping block.
Hungry Americans need your support, and time is running out. The next two weeks are critical to help prevent the Super Committee from cutting hunger assistance programs. Once they release their bill to the full Congress, we face a much bigger challenge if the bill includes harmful cuts to anti-hunger programs.
That’s why we are rallying our supporters to deliver a clear message to Congress and the Super Committee: Balance the budget without increasing hunger in America.
There are several key deadlines that we must mobilize for:
- Now through November 23—Super Committee taking recommendations from Congress and drafting a deficit reduction proposal—this is our best opportunity to affect the outcome of the Super Committee’s efforts.
- November 23 —Deadline for the Super Committee to vote on their proposed bill.
- December 2—Deadline for the Super Committee to release the bill to Congress.
- December 23—Deadline for Congress to vote on the Super Committee bill.
What can you do? Speak out. We will rally our supporters during critical moments, and we need you to respond–especially in the next two weeks. Be sure to register to get all of the latest information and calls to action.
